And breeding with sexed genetics doesn\u2019t mean compromising vital dairy productivity and health traits \u2013 as this December\u2019s top Australian Breeding Value (ABV) proven sires are available in ABS\u2019 Sexcel\u00ae sexed genetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ABS\u2019 biggest selling Sexcel sires 29HO18698 ABS <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18698\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/US\/AUS\">JERONIMO-P<\/a>, 29HO18182 Rosylane-LLC <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18182\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">SPOCK<\/a> and 29HO18490 De-Su 13530 <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18490\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">SEVILLE<\/a> are all sitting at the top of the nation\u2019s ABV proven Holstein list, while the next generation \u2013 29HO18878 Pine-Tree <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18878\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">HOWLER<\/a> \u2013 is taking fertility to the next level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cmost elite\u201d ABS fertility sire, HOWLER is already drawing comparisons with the biggest selling ABS sire in Australia and farmer favourite MVP. \u201cHOWLER is sitting on the Interbull list \u2013 his proof includes overseas data &#8211; but he\u2019s in our top four selling bulls in Australia and his daughters will start calving here next year,\u201d ABS Australian Business Operations Manager Bruce Ronalds said. \u201cHe\u2019s a popular sire. &nbsp;We\u2019ve sold more Sexcel semen from him than conventional in the past 12 months \u2013 farmers are just blown away by his semen fertility.\u201d HOWLER\u2019S semen fertility is 3.54 per cent across 2000 matings, ranking him the highest in the country by far \u2013 and driving his Sexcel popularity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holstein breeder, Anthony Eccles from Purnim, Western Victoria, believes HOWLER is at least 10 per cent more fertile than other Holstein sires and he has the calves on the ground and pregnancies to prove it. Initially HOWLER was used to join heifers, but his fertility was so good, they used his Sexcel semen in a reproduction program on the milking herd \u2013 using second-hand CIDRS \u2013 and he got 49 out of 100 cows pregnant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"1024\" width=\"816\" src=\"https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Anthony-Eccles-cropped.jpg?resize=816,1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Anthony-Eccles-cropped.jpg 2304w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Anthony-Eccles-cropped.jpg?resize=239,300 239w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Anthony-Eccles-cropped.jpg?resize=768,964 768w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Anthony-Eccles-cropped.jpg?resize=816,1024 816w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Anthony-Eccles-cropped.jpg?resize=1224,1536 1224w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Anthony-Eccles-cropped.jpg?resize=1632,2048 1632w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px\" \/><figcaption>Anthony Eccles believes HOWLER is at least 10 per cent more fertile than other Holstein sires and has the calves on the ground and the pregnancies to prove it<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Using <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18878\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">HOWLER<\/a>, Anthony has bred more calves and got cows in calf earlier \u2013 all important contributors to dairy farm profitability. \u201cSome cows that we know we are going to have a reproduction problem with, we wouldn\u2019t normally join them until they get to 100 days in milk, but with HOWLER we can join them at 65 days,\u201d Anthony said. \u201cAt the end of the day, thanks to HOWLER, we don\u2019t have as many empty or late calving cows and we have extra heifer calves on the ground.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Combining Sexcel with dairy-beef Beef InFocus\u2122 has changed the business of breeding for many Australian dairy farmers, with ABS sales proving this \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/the-winning-game-plan\/\">Winning Game Plan<\/a>\u2019 is growing in popularity. \u201cFarmers are breeding heifers from their genetically superior animals, but most importantly, combining this with Beef InFocus is ensuring profit from the rest of the herd,\u201d Bruce said. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/dairy\/sexcel-sexed-genetics\/\">Sexcel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/dairy\/infocus\/\">Beef InFocus<\/a> underpin a profitable and sustainable breeding program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Consistent Holstein sires<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18698\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/US\/AUS\">JERONIMO-P<\/a> remains at the top of the Holstein proven ABV rankings this December, with 539 Balanced Performance Index (BPI$) and more than 250 daughters in his proof. After dominating the genomic proofs, he has settled as a proven sire, adding more milk, fat, and protein to improve his Australian Selection Index (ASI). \u201cAt 539 BPI$ his current proof is higher than his traditional genomic data and, with him settling on a BPI that high, with so many daughters in his proof, that\u2019s extremely rare,\u201d Bruce said. A farmer favourite, his temperament is 104 and likeability 105. JERONIMO-P sired half of the top 10 December ABV cows, including number one and two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holsteins <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18182\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">SPOCK<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18490\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">SEVILLE<\/a> and 29HO18093 Brabantdale <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18093\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">DRAKE<\/a> round out the rest of the ABS offering at the top of the ABV proven list, with little change to their rankings, reinforcing the consistency of ABS sires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reds for health and profit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ABS\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/252NR11819\/D\/AUS\/NORWEGIAN%20RED\/EN\/US\/AUS\">ONSTAD-P<\/a> remains at the top of the Australian Red breed ABV proven rankings and ABS has the most homozygous polled sires on the Red breeds genomic ABV list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those wanting to avoid disbudding, ABS has plenty of high-quality Red breed sires \u2013 including the top polled sire <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/252NR12116\/D\/AUS\/NORWEGIAN%20RED\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">SAUSVATN PP<\/a> \u2013 who was released in August and is now 252 BPI$. \u201cFarmers won\u2019t have to disbud any of SAUSVATN PP\u2019s progeny and he\u2019s also A2, with high daughter fertility and available in REDX\u2122 sexed genetics,\u201d Bruce said. \u201cHe\u2019s the sire to add to a farmer\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/the-winning-game-plan\/\">Winning Game Plan<\/a>\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other top homozygous or \u201cdouble P\u201d sires are <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/252NR12139\/D\/AUS\/NORWEGIAN%20RED\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">ALAND PP<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/252NR11948\/D\/AUS\/NORWEGIAN%20RED\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">HORVERID PP<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/252NR11919\/D\/AUS\/NORWEGIAN%20RED\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">OFSTAD<\/a> &#8211; not to be confused with the number one proven Red breed bull \u2013 is on the genomic Interbull list at 392 BPI$. The single P and A2 sire is ranked number one for mastitis resistance at 106 and number one for ASI at 302. OFSTAD progeny will arrive in Australia in the coming 18 months and Bruce said ABS will be working hard to achieve a full Australian proof for this next generation sire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the 13 sires on the Red breed ABV Daughter Fertility list, 11 are from the ABS stable. Bruce said this is proof of ABS\u2019 focus on health traits and their link to profitability. He said Red breeders were combining the ABS sexed genetics product REDX with dairy-beef Beef InFocus to deliver the most profitable return from their herds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jerseys showcase local talent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Northern Victorian-bred Kaarmona <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29JE4085\/D\/AUS\/JERSEY\/EN\/US\/AUS\">BALENTI<\/a> (CSCBALENTI) sits at number two on the Jersey ABV proven rankings this December, with a BPI$ of 283. This sire, bred by the Sprunt family, rose 32 BPI$ points from August with the addition of 25 Australian milking daughters to a total of 90. \u201cFarmers just love him,\u201d Bruce said. \u201cHe\u2019s 107 for likeability and 106 for temperament \u2013 his workability is outstanding \u2013 and he is positive for daughter fertility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gippsland-bred Gelbeado Park <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29JE4313\/D\/AUS\/JERSEY\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">WOODSIDE<\/a> (CSCWOODSIDE) sits at the top of the Jersey genomic ABV list with semen production in full swing. \u201cHe has been one of our most sought after young genomic bulls due to his elite type and ability to add chest and body to the breed,\u201d Bruce said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"980\" width=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Mumfords-with-CSCWOODSIDE-dam.jpeg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Mumfords-with-CSCWOODSIDE-dam.jpeg 2730w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Mumfords-with-CSCWOODSIDE-dam.jpeg?resize=300,287 300w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Mumfords-with-CSCWOODSIDE-dam.jpeg?resize=768,735 768w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Mumfords-with-CSCWOODSIDE-dam.jpeg?resize=1024,980 1024w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Mumfords-with-CSCWOODSIDE-dam.jpeg?resize=1536,1470 1536w, https:\/\/www-dev.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2021\/12\/Mumfords-with-CSCWOODSIDE-dam.jpeg?resize=2048,1959 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Paul &amp; Lisa Mumford, Won Wron, Gippsland, with the dam of CSCWOODSIDE, Gelbeado Park Tahbilk Cowslip 5435 EX-90<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>CSCWOODSIDE is one of three new young Central Sires Co-op (CSC) sires now producing semen and farmers have been jumping at the chance to inject some new genetics into their herds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Semen production from top polled sire Brookbora <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29JE4294\/D\/AUS\/JERSEY\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">BUSHFIELD<\/a> (CSCBUSHFIELD) has also geared-up with straws sold throughout the country to breeders using him in embryo flush programs. \u201cWe are working through back orders now to make sure many farmers can use this exciting polled sire,\u201d Bruce said. \u201cMany breeders want to use CSCBUSHFIELD because of his high genomic numbers and his connection with a highly successful cow family from the Brookbora herd.
